Some clips from he EOS 500D. The movie mode was not my primary focus at first, but as I used the camera, I began to find it better than the D90 and 5D MkII. I returned it several days early to help Canon get it out to another reviewer before the bank holiday - otherwise, I would have shot one concert gig and some 'real' subjects.

  • Were the sounds of this video captured with the stock microphone of the camera, or were you using an external microphone?

  • @tk10 - the built-in mic. I used external mics later on. This is all with the onboard mic.

  • i dont understand why the quality is so poor in this video but so much better on others, also using a canon 500D... watch?v=EkHt13euYMQ&feature=related

???!! any ideas!! ps nice singing!! :)x

  • @MariluLane - are you viewing it at 720p? Remember, this was one of the first videos posted anywhere from the 500D, and was taken entirely hand-held with the 18-200mm on one day. Since then I've started to focus more on testing video functions, as further DSLRs have incorporated video.

  • @daviddkilpatrick ah i think you're right, it is ten times better on 480p even... although i was able to watch that other video on 360p with crystal clear quality... although i do think my browser can't generally handle 480p and above, a few 500D videos stop every few seconds at higher p rate... hmmm all v curious ;) hehe

and may i ask why you chose that lens? were u supplied with the standard 18-55mm? :)

  • @MariluLane - this was a loan review camera for a magazine report. Canon supplied it with the 18-200mm. This is not a very good lens, and the newer (non-USM) 18-135mm has a better type of stabilisation for video.
