Notes:
1.You can usually find the Ziplock hand pump at Walmart or other large grocery stores along with the other plastic bags, or look online.
2. See this post on my blog if you are curious about vacuum-packing other ingredients or lettuce besides romaine in with your salad. http://www.salad-in-a-jar.com/family-...

What size jars are you using in your demo ? Are these large mouth jars or regular jars ? Can you use the "Foodsaver wide mouth jar sealer on the mouth of the regular jar ?

I'm am using quart-size large mouth jars. Regular jars are harder to pack and empty. Also seem harder to get a good seal. No, you can not use a wide-mouth sealer to vacuum-pack a regular jar. You will need an attachment designed for the regular jar.

Can you use the Zip loc pump method for sealing jars with dehydrated foods for long term storage in the cupboard?

I would think so but haven't actually tried it myself. As long as it is something you would keep in the pantry anyway, you should be good.

I used a Ziplock hand pump. This is just one way to vacuum-pack. See my other videos for other ideas.

this is great! I live alone and will be needing to fix a week's worth of meals in one day, per week, for the next 6 months while I do chemo. I'm hoping to view a few of your jar videos, so I can utilize the recipes to make life easier for me, during the challenge, while still eating fresh & healthy stuff, instead of easy just add water junk. :)

Remember. Anything you vacuum-pack that is perishable (like fruits, vegetables, lettuce, etc) still need to be refrigerated. This is not a substitute for heat canning.

    To Just Frackit

No, you must keep perishables refrigerated. This is not a substitute for heat-processed canning. Vacuum-packing just buys you a few more days.
