This Denbury video demonstrates the CO2 Enhanced Oil Recovery (CO2 EOR) process.

CO2 injected into a reservoir through an injection well acts as a kind of super solvent as it passes through the oil reservoir. The CO2 dissolves into the oil that it contacts, decreasing the oils viscosity and surface tension, allowing the oil to be extracted through producing wells. Exploration and production activity in most oil reservoirs results in the recovery of only a portion (30-60%) of the original oil in place, leaving a significant amount of oil that can be recovered using CO2 enhanced oil recovery. Our CO2 enhanced oil recovery efforts have demonstrated our ability to recover on average an additional 17% of the original oil in place, and in some cases, we are exceeding 17%.
