I recomend everyone to watch FF XIV new pre-release trailer and making offs at the FinalFantasyXIV channel. the amount of effort in this game is AWESOME

FFXI is on PS2, Xbox 360, and PC. It was the first, and still is the only cross platform MMORPG. I played on all three platforms at one time or another over my 6 years stint in Vanadiel. FFXIV looks to be shooting for a broader audience than FFXI was able to attract. However, I don't think any company, even Square Enix, will produce a "WoW killer" though. Personally, I hate WoW, but it does have an undeniable fan base. I myself am looking forward to FFXIV, and I hope many others are as well.

FFXIV is going to be different because its being made for the PC and ps3 which has better technology than the FFXI era. If you don't like XI, then you won't like this one. Th online aspect adds to the whole fun of leveling up with people and using the new system as well as the upgraded graphics.
