Today you will see the back joined along with the center strip. I also get bored and glue on the ebony peghead veneer.

  • wow that was an amazing guitar at the end, where did you learn to do this? I would love to make my own guitar.

  • Thanks! I learned by just doing the kits from Martin. You should give it a try if you can purchase or just borrow some tools and have some good attention to detail.

  • Episode 12 shows the finish. So make sure you have seen all opisodes. Actually the guitar has been with the owner for a few months. :) I'm just slow at getting this editing finished. It sure was pretty. I'm ready to keep one for me again. :)

  • haha burn it? would that be sturdy? and no im not trying to make a wall mount filler, so guess your right, african blackwood ehh? would that stick out from the ebony a lot? hmm ill look for some shots of that stuff, also when you gonna finish this guitar, your so close, dont leave us hangin ^_^

  • It would sound terrible, but it might look cool if your looking for something to hang on the wall. :)

You might look into African Blackwood with a toned top or perhaps burn the wood? :) You might have to get creative to find a good soft wood for a soundboard that is naturally black. The only thing that comes to mind that still leaves the top with some natural wood is to laminate an ebony vaneer over spruce. This might work for you.

  • well i like black guitars and i like natural guitars, and i figure it would look extremely sexy to have an all ebony one, also i wouldnt wanna dye the wood because sun damamge would be harsher on dye then regular ebony. and i believe there are softer types of ebony, and i know ebony is hard to work with but i tihnk it would be worth the effort :) now im not a guitar builder but this has been added to my list of things to do before death, build an acoustic guitar

  • Never worked with ebony, but it might not be the best choice. Of course your top needs to be a softer wood if you want ANY tone. What is your reasoning for wanting Ebony?

  • i have been thinking about making a 100% ebony wood guitar, what are your ideas for how that would work. well or not.

  • Sorry, I forgot to video that part and it was too late by the time I edited. But I used shims in 3 places along the length of the back. This kept the even pressure on the joints.

  • I would have really liked to see how you glued the back plates. All I saw was you placing the strip in the middle of the two plates, but that was it.
