Great video capture of quite an event here. That's some of the "best" wheel slippage I've seen. Or heard! Even after the second SY shows up and couples. It takes the both of them some real effort to develop any momentum for that load. Great show!

It may have taken place in China, but those locos are speaking a language we all understand. Thanks for suffering the cold feet in order that we could enjoy that action.

Ah, memories. This was an everyday occurrence 60 years ago when I
was a boy in the wintry mountains of WV, and America still used steam
on its railroads. The engineers did a good job getting their train going.

@MilwaukeeSDman the rumor is that is is still somewhat steam on that line I was there in December and it was still all steam in Jixi they told us the echonemy slowed down the total loss of steam to this line but hey have said that for a while now it was sure awsome to see working 2-8-2s like this in 2009 and not a tourist railroad

LOL this still goes on when I was there in december and witnesed the same thing happen but he didnt have the help of a second SY he coached the train to start on its own after some work it was awsome to see and hear

March 2007! It is still possible to see steam in action at this mine and at other locations in the Jixi area of NE China. This location is on a sharp curve, steep incline and the lines were wet, near freezing, hence the slipping. Most of the locos are in very good condition.
