This shows the two sights in action. The front has a manual latch holding it in place while the rear sight flips up when the rear section is pulled out.

  • Nothing physical. It's used for laser skirmish games and uses an IR beam.

  • how did you make the two flip up sights??

i'm making one but dont no how to make the sights that flip up when you exstend it plz hep me?

  • @mathis156

Both sights have a spring which provides the movement. The rear sight sits inside the end of the tube which extends. Once it is pulled out it allows the sight to flip up into position. Same with the front sight, a small plate holds it down and when it slides back the sight can flip up. I have actually made a second M72 where both sights flip up at the same time when you pull the tube out, that was a bit more difficult!

  • Very nice! Can't wait to see the finished product!

Were the flip-up sights something bought off the shelf intended for a different use (the front one looks a bit like one of those drywall anchors), or were they completely custom-built for this purpose?

  • All custom built, I was going to have a look around at what could be used so I didn't have to start from scratch - but inspiration hit me! I also looked at old record player lid hinges but the springs were too strong.
