A shame no one remembered the great Elmer Bernstein. Three words: The Magnificent Seven. Plus a lot more. A shame he passed way mere months after Jerry Goldsmith.

I'm a student of composition and, having done some small score projects myself, I can second this. Especially if he's orchestrating it himself. It's great to have a composer who still does as much of that as possible—the orchestration is just as much a part of the music as the themes.

As for deadlines... they have an incredible way of motivating. It's a lot different than the kick you get from inspiration, and not as pleasant, but they work!
