Track 9 Madman (Running Through the Fields) from Eric Burdon and the Animals Love Is Album (1968)
*A personal recommendation: Listen to Gemini before this track.

No I don't own the rights to this or any Eric Burdon and the Animals music. I am simply a fan wanting to share a 'hidden gem' of a song. :)

Lyrics:
You ask me how
I've become mad now
There was a day,
I had so much say
What of my feet?
Life seemed to be sweet
I was admired
But I was so tired
Go through the dam
Lion and lamb
Know what you're sayin'?
Know what you're sayin'?!!!?!
Things went okay,
And then one day, "Pow!"
I can expound
With the new words found
If reasons gone,
How do I live on?
Because I know
Which way I must go
Where can I go,
Now that I know
Time has gone by?
Time has gone by
Isn't that the madman,
Running through the fields?
Isn't that the madman?
Wonder how he feels...
You look at me,
What do you see now?
Is it so bad,
Or am I just sad?
Are you in doubt?
There is a way out
I've seen the crack
I cannot come back
I'm not afraid
Sticks out a way
Into the tide
Be by my side
Isn't that the madman,
Running through the fields?
Isn't that the madman?
Wonder how he feels...
[Heavy breathing to fade]

I had this album right after it was released. I played the vinyl right out of the grooves (in a manner of speaking). Gemini remains my favorite. Where has time gone?

I think that you will find that this was covered almost exactly by the Animals and was originally played/recorded by Zoot Money's band Dantalian's chariot Septermber 1967 which included Andy Somers on guitar. On the CD Chariot Rising the writing credits for the song are Money/Somers. The original is on You Tube.

Wait a minute. Listen to that "chorsey" susupended chord at 0:52. It sounds like the chords your would hear on the Police's "Walking on Teh Moon" 12 years later. So, was Andy Summers ALSO playing on this track ???????
Seems like a weird coincidence. That bit seems ahead of its time.

Interesting how this great track, which closes side four, of the final recording of
Eric Burdon and the Animals, loops back on, at the fade. Perhaps it continues to
play, after a mere 42 years. The New Animals may have disbanded after this October
1968 album, but "Madman" plays on...Enjoy!
