Genn Hicks @Buddy Guy's open mic in Chicago,IL
Misty Blue by Dorothy Moore

Born and raised in Jackson, MS, Genn Hicks began singing at the very young age of five and wrote her first song at the age of twelve. Similar to most musical artist, Genn Hicks singing experience began in the church. Over time, she became a part of the choir in elementary, middle and high school, and was also a member of the Mississippi Childrens Choir where she recorded two albums and performed on a BET Christmas Special. After finishing high school Genn Hicks attended the University of Southern Mississippi where she pursued a degree in English Literature. During her time there, Genn performed with a band and performed at the University of Southern Mississippis pageant along with many other singing engagements. After receiving her degree in English Literature, she worked on two demos and performed a song that she wrote in the gospel play Mama Why that featured platinum selling gospel artist Marvin Sapp.
Finally, after many years and two demos, Genn Hicks has the chance to release her first album entitled My Story, where she wrote and co produced every song. This album talks about everything from Being Alone to not wanting to be just someones Fantasy in a relationship. Her sound has been described as organic and raw with a R&B/Soul influence. Genn is currently working on finishing up her album. In the meantime, she continues to promote herself as an artist by performing at various venues; she recently performed at the House of Blues and Buddy Guys Legend in Chicago, IL.
