Quebec's national holiday. Festivities held on 23 June featuring a live show and a fireworks display all beginning at 8:00 pm at Battlefields Park. The Sainte-Jean-Baptiste Day was a very popular event in the Colonial French Regime. The tradition landed in Canada with the first French colonists. According to the Jesuits, the first celebration occurred on the evening of 23 June 1636 with a bonfire and five cannon shots.
