hmmm, a couple of things - if you can get 40K + miles on tires on average I wanna know what tires you are using, I am lucky to get 20K on any I buy. Also, tires should be inflated based on the manual/handbook, never let air out or inflate based on tire wear, it could be a bad bearing or all manner of other reasons, only adjust pressure based on a pressure gauge and the specs.
