Review:

" He dragged his nation out of the Dark Ages, instituting sweeping internal reforms and expanding its borders in a series of campaigns. But he made his people pay in blood. Ivan the Terrible is one of the most fascinating rulers in history. He was the first Russian Czar, and virtually invented the Russian State that would survive until the Communist Revolution nearly 400 years later. Yet he is better remembered for his ruthlessness and wanton brutality, which became more and more prevalent during his long rule. BIOGRAPHY; explores the life and legacy of this monumental figure. Russian scholars detail his many accomplishments he presided over one of the greatest periods of internal reform, external expansion, and centralization of state power in the history of Russia. Period accounts also show his dark side he killed his son in a fit of anger and ordered the execution of an entire town based on groundless reports that the citizens were conspiring against him. BIOGRAPHY; presents the fascinating story of the violent but vital ruler who shaped the destiny of his nation and sealed the fate of many of its citizens."

  • Out of curiosity, do you know when this was made?

  • @SiennaElderly Yes, in 1997.

  • This is a perfect example to understand the Russian people. Brutal and necessary evil. I think they suffer by themselves by that nature. God has given to us a burden which is hard to maintain.

  • @FinnMove You're absolutely right. Tomorrow I'll upload a documentary about Peter the Great.

  • 1:44 - correct me if i´m wrong, but that picture is NOT set in 16th century russia.

hmmm...not a good start for a history programme!

    i know, i know....picky, picky, picky.....

  • @FinnMove i remember Ron Reagan, and him callin Russia an evil empire, an after what they went through, man what an idiot.

  • The history of Russia begins with that of the Eastern Slavs and the Finno-Ugric peoples. The state of Garðaríki ("the realm of towns"), which was centered in Novgorod and included the entire areas inhabited by Ilmen Slavs, Veps and Votes, was established by the Varangian chieftain Rurik in 862 (the traditional beginning of Russian history).

  • butchering innocents...sounds pretty christian to me!

  • I was in the USA and saw their disgusting healthcare and money hungry doctors, some of them equally terrible of ivan the terrible and experienced dreadful results of wrong treatments, plus paid money. I do not think stalin would scare soviet people even 1% as much, as American politics and healthcare would.

  • I lived in soviet union and never heard even 5%as bad about stali as in the USA. America lies a lot about USSR including Stalin, but when I heard in Soviet Union about Americas dreading health care, it was not lying.

  • almost 500 years and half the world away and he still scares me >_>

  • I can never get enough of Russian history.

  • @FinnMove Are you saying that russians are evil? Obviously not all, you can't generalize people and certainly not in a country as big and diverse
