My favorite piece of work from my time at Coventry University. It tells the story of how the Cathedral was destroyed during WW2, and gives a small insight into the terror and destructive mercilessness of war, and ultimately war's waist of human life and endeavor.

  • Some lovely footage of the old cathedral. After the war they actually considered just leaving the tower and spire standing and removing the walls. Definitely made the right choice in the end though.

I sometimes wonder if it should be restored - with the 'new' cathedral being sold or given to the Roman Catholic Church. I like the new one but it does remind me more of an art gallery than a place of worship.

  • Thank you - I'm not particularly religious but I would like to see it rebuilt so it can form a more practical function in the community. Without wanting to sound like I am belittling the absolute horrors of WW2 - I think it is time us as a nation fogive & move on from it, now Europe has learned the lessons from this cold hearted tragedy. I'd hate to be a 2nd/3rd generation German with some of the stigma still attached to their country - when obviously later generations had nothing to do with WW2

  • I am glad it was never rebuilt. It serves Coventry's history better as it is now. Even though times have changed this is a part of history that can never be forgotten. I love this video and others like it too. Coventry has a lot of history and I am proud to be from there,

  • I agree, I think rebuilding it would be a powerful symbol of forgiveness and healing. I guess as it stands, it is a powerful reminder of the brutal human waste of war - all wars actually. Thank for the comments everyone.

  • thanks for that...i never saw images of the inside of the cathedral before.....cheers

  • well i am not from coventry and i knew quite a lot about it. thank you for your vid man. cool work nice and simple

  • Seeing any place of worship no matter the religion in ruins is disheartening esp. when the ruination is the result of the misdeeds by hateful people bent on terror and destruction. Hopefully the remains serve as a reminder of what happens when hatred gets the better of humanity.

  • Great vid iv lived in cov my whole life and never knew alot of the history.
