I know this one has been posted a few times on Youtube before, but never in it's original and most proper sounding form. The original Skate or Die! was released in 1987 on the Commodore 64 by Electronic Arts, and was ported to a number of other computers and consoles (most notably the NES). The music was composed by the famous Rob Hubbard, who's compositions helped define the Commodore, and the SID sound in general. Some of his other notable works include International Karate, Crazy Comets, rewritten versions of music from arcade games like Commando, and of course the music for Skate or Die!'s sequel, Ski or Die.
Skate or Die! Was the quintessential skating game back in the day, and is still the only skating game any of us old timers will allow ourselves to play. The game featured a diverse offering of skating events to choose from, such as a downhill race, a trick ramp, and even a skater duel in a dried up pool. I know I would be tickled to see EA bring back the franchise, complete with Rodney (skate shop owner and essentially the game's host) Bionic Lester (Rodney's son and your main rival) and all the cool events.
This track is the intro for the game, and features some really wicked SID style guitars. The NES version is also good, but doesn't sound quite the same. Still worth a listen, as are the other track's from the NES soundtrack, which are entirely different from the ones featured in the Commodore 64 version. This is because it was handled by Ultra, a name Konami used to publish more games than allowed per year on the NES.
