IMPORTANT: Please refrain from making Shenmue 3-related whining and bitching comments. If you do, I'll block you instantly. Seriously, it's stupid, pointless since it won't help anyway, and you just make a fool out of yourself. Thanks for your cooperation! ^.^

Just a little demo of what's to come. I originally wanted to skip this theme because it's too simple and probably boring to watch on YouTube. But after fumbling around with the VSTs for so long, I wanted to do at least some kind of demo recording with a more simple one, before moving on to the more complicated - and popular - themes. So yeah, it'll just get better from here on! And I bet you all know which track will be next, right?
The slow tempo and general easiness of this piece actually made this one very annoying. It's just hard to stay focused on these long notes for 3:40 minutes straight. I slipped quite a few times, so the initial result became very sloppy. Should have probably recorded this at 1.5 times the speed!

About the Shenmue Remastering Project
---
In this open-ended project, I remake select pieces of BGM from the two Shenmue games using current technology (well... at least using those cheap pieces of technology I can afford for my humble home studio).
I noticed that everyone always focuses only the two main themes of the series ("Sedge Tree" and "Sedge Flower"). But those have been done to death already and, for me, quickly became very boring after just a few months. Instead, this project will focus on a few of the nearly 600 other pieces of music present in the two games.
The selected pieces then are no longer available only in the Dreamcast Sound Format (.dsf) or renderings thereof. Its emulation is still rather immature, with lots of audio glitches in certain songs. Even if you directly record it from a real Dreamcast soundchip, many of the samples used in the original songs are fairly low-quality and unworthy of a sixth generation game. Heck, most PSone games with sequenced music had better sound quality than Shenmue!
But this will not only be a mere sound quality update.
Each instrument will be performed and recorded live, and only receive minor adjustments later on. This will breathe new life into the original soundtracks, and makes the resulting tracks feel way more natural than the fairly mechanical feeling, sequenced original music.
The project will start out to be mainly focused on the BGM in the Guilin chapter (Shenmue II, Disc 4), but will then expand to other select BGM from both games.
I'm also open to a small number of fan requests! Please post your suggestions on the Moderator module on my channel page.
As a side effect, all the material and resoures used in the creation of the final versions will be published as well. This means you'll get sheet music for select instruments, MIDI files, and my customized Audio Overload DSF (Dreamcast Sound Format) player used to split up the original tracks into multichannel recordings. All the notes are transcribed from these recordings. Hence, everything is 99% accurate! (with the remaining 1% being the original dynamics, which we really don't want to keep anyway)
Shenmue fansites (and, well, every other site too), feel free to add all or any of the downloads in the description to your pages! I'd appreciate it if you could link back to this video then. Like with all my projects, I don't bother with attaching a certain license onto this one (because this is the internet after all), so do with the stuff whatever you like.

Hardware
---
* Yamaha CVP-301 - stupidly overpriced digital piano, don't buy it. MIDI input #1, for everything that doesn't need any additional expression controls. As for the sounds, it's used for piano, strings and other random sounds not covered by seperate plugins
* E-MU Xboard 49 - MIDI input #2. A bit worse in dynamics, but used for everything that needs more articulation and expression controls.
---
Software
--------
* Samplitude Music Studio 16 - DAW
* Bundled with SMS16:
** MAGIX Vita - used for guitars
*** MAGIX Atmos - "Ambient Sound Creator" Synthesizer/Sampler (?)
* Kong Audio ChineeWinds/ChineeKong - VSTIs for the Chinese flute and drums

How about Naoyukis bike from the first game?

@ShoMoney34 Gotcha. I like that one myself, so everyone, thumb up that comment if you want to hear it redone! :-)
However, I'm way behind schedule with this project, so requested songs won't be uploaded until spring next year.

This video deserves more views! I've posted a bulletin and shared it on Facebook/Twitter.

@Ziming Many thanks for the support, and thanks to everyone who liked this video! I'm really overwhelmed by the (for my standards) tremendous response!
Sheet music and GM-compatible MIDI files are now uploaded.
I'll immediately start working on the next theme. I'm still kinda unhappy with how this cover turned out in the end, so I'll try to make the next one sound even better.
