Im pretty sure this happens in dark tower (famous stephen king series about a gunslinger), in the second book. Except the guy that got shot had his head and hand mutilated by the explosion.

@ZivWar actually, he was a translator for brisco's opponent (who was a mute) but why he actually fell over is beyond me... When I watched it the first time, I was like "wait... What?"
