Mike Goddard, Chaiman and Founder of Belvoir Lettings talks about the company's history. Mike was also Chairman of the Bristish Franchise Association (bfa) for 3 years

Mike Goddard, Chairman of Belvoir, served 17 years in the Royal Air Force, culminating in his appointment as Wing Commander in charge of a fast jet station. Prior to this Mike was a teacher in Africa for seven years.

Following his retirement from the RAF Mike and his wife Stephanie launched Belvoir in 1994. Belvoir's Central Office is in Grantham, Lincolnshire and is now one of the UK's largest independent specialist residential lettings agencies with over 140 franchises nationwide.

Mike and Stephanie sold their first Belvoir franchise to Andy Campbell in Elgin, Scotland in 1995 and his business is still thriving today.

Mike was Chairman of the British Franchise Association (bfa) and served in this position for a record three years. Mike also sits on the Board of the Property Ombudsman.

Mike was named as Leader of the Year at the Negotiator Awards 2009.

In July 2010 Mike stepped down as CEO of Belvoir to take on the new role of Chairman. He appointed Dorian Gonsalves as MD of Belvoir.

Today Mike lives with his wife and family in Scotland. Mike's hobbies are sailing, walking his dogs and climbing. He has climbed Kilimanjaro a record six times and still holds the world record for running up and down Mount Kenya in four hours and 38 minutes.

Mike's philosophy: "Be optimistic, view challenges as opportunities and be fully accountable for your actions. Also, if you want a job doing well give it to someone who does it better than you -- that is effective delegation. Set yourself targets and endeavour to go outside your comfort zone. A small step outside your comfort zone means progress."
