Think you must have your wires crossed about John Woolard vocalist with the Cherokees - John died in 2007.

  • This group were from Leeds NOT the Isle of Wight.

John Kirby Woolard (second from right in picture)was the lead vocalist, and sorry to argue with 'francis 1946m' posted 1 month ago - John died in 2007! My late brother played drums with John in other groups prior to the Cherokees.

  • the band came from leeds, played in germany pre the beatles, john the voca list works at roundhay golf club leeds, now 70 years of age, looks 60 , 43 years of marriage, guess he missed the swinging 60,s

  • I think this version is the best ;beautiful nostalgic song very well played!

  • This was a Local Isle of Wight Band in the early 1960's and this was there only major Hit that I know of. There where many bands around that time with the same names just remember the Shadows where origanaly called the Drifters. Some of the guys from this band still play a gig on the Island every couple of years or so. Well worth a listen if your On the Isle of Wight and there is a gig on. I prefer the Lonnie Donnigan Version, saw Lonnie play this live and it was a great night.

  • @raystockton He's living in a stunning waterside mansion in Canada! My dad was the roadie for the band and I got married in Dave's house a few years ago, with Dave & his partner as as our witnesses. He played guitar for us after. Great guy!

  • @trapanner -

The drummer of the real Cherokees who were known in Germany around 1964.

  • @jt123egypte Dave Bower where are you now?? Sandy from Peterborough - remember my mums shop you used to shop for sandwiches on route to gig????
