The male lion has a pride. He's in charge of a group of females until another male lion runs him off.
Male lions are social but also solitary like tigers and cougars.
In the wild the lion would be rank over the tiger as an apex predator due to the pride life style.
The male lion is the only big cat which is able to live in a pride but also be solitary.

  • True the African Male lion lives a primarily solitary life style. And can brought down a 2 ton cape buffalo all in his own effort. Which still raises the question. If a lion is capable of surviving on his own, why live in a group?

  • Of course they are able to sourvive on their own.

have you ever heared something of nomadic male lions? nomadic male lions are lions which dont have a pride , they live alone they are solitary like tigers and the other big cats. they also hunt alone.

bah dont compar lions to tigers lions are much stronger they hunt large animals tigers do the opposite

  • The question of why do male lions want to live in a pride when they could hunt and survive alone... The answer is they want to mate with lionesses and these lionesses live in a pride. To mate with them, male lions have to take control of a pride and wait for the right time to mate with the lionesses when they are in heat. The other reason is when male lions are in a pride, they basically do not need to hunt anymore as they simply snatch the kill from the lionesses and eat their fill !!! Simple??

  • Lions will win any situation against any predator, because they work as a pride. call it weak or not, but its the best possible adaptation of all the predators we have. they are the top predators of this world because of that.

Male lions have to be alone most of the time because they are patrolling the borders, i can think of no other reason. they are social animals and that makes them top predator/boss.
