Took me several hours and was a severe pain, however, I managed to get HP's Mobile Internet Experience (MIE), downloaded from HP's site, running on VMware Fusion. All hardware works now including network, audio, and monitor/video card. This was particularly difficult with no developer tools and kernel source with the release. Being based on Ubuntu 8.04, I was able to correct most of the issues using that source but sticking with the stock kernel. This makes a nice stand alone media player / web browser VM.

The video is laggy and this VM is running much slower than normal. This is because the screen capture software was on the same machine running the VM, so there is a lot of overhead. This runs at least 10 times faster alone. Very nice package HP came up with here. Keep up the good work HP! This is how you do a mean and lean UI in Linux with some style! Defiantly makes me want to pick up an HP Mini with this OS.

P.S. HP, please make this a little more friendly for developers, release source so we can build on to this platform!

  • how did you download it? where did you find it?

  • I can not make it work

Is there any chance of publishing a guide and also from where to get the iso file of mie

  • Any chance of a guide on how to do this in VMware?

  • looks nice.

will you release your vmdk to community?

by the way, you can directly install hp mie from usb key into vmware by mounting plop bootmanager floppy image which supports usb boot.
