"Peleliu - The Killing Ground" episode from "WWII: GI Diary"..... This old 1978 TV docu-drama was narrated by Lloyd Bridges and told the stories of real soldiers/sailors/pilots and their first-hand experiences in battle. Archival footage and good background music really made the stories come alive.....about 25 episodes were made. This is the story of the costly and vicious battle for the island of Peleliu in the Pacific.......part 3 of 3
The shame of this series is that it has been sanitized and propagandized. While it seems to portray a factual account of the battles, it falls far short of depicting the real cost of the invasion. There is definitely an absence of American dead. 7800 wounded and 1800 dead? I think the numbers were far higher. further, the battle was to have lasted three days and lasted three months!

Great series! I am very familiar with WW2 footage in both theaters. Every scene is new to me. I 'd speculate this is all the real deal, not stock footage of the PTO! Thanks for sharing footage!
