@vinaypande Absolutely. There was a slower vilambit composition before this gat. Nishat Khan plays a mangled version of that gat elsewhere on Youtube with Zakir Husain.

Great recording. I heard it for the first time around 1984 (it was one of my favourites then).
That original cassette recording had one more part before this one: that part was probably the Vilambit; I guess this part is actually the Madhya laya (not Vilambit). You can listen to that first part here: audiofarm(d-o-t)(o-r-g)/audiof
