NS 11E with ES40DC NS 7542 in the lead comes threw Staunton and I make it up there just in time. My friend Mike gives a wave for the camera. As you can tell Mike does not have the ditchlights on. Unknown reason, maybe because he met NS 302 at Karnes. 301 has southbound mainline to St. Louis, where 11E will pass him.

  • If you look real closely at 0:16, the back ditchlights were flashing, so I guess he had the wrong set on, lol.

  • Yes, however, on modern NS locomotives it is standard (automatic) for when the engineer sets the front lights off the back comes on automatically. But, yes! Needed to be on!

  • That's crazy! No ditchlights?

  • No nssd70m2, none what so ever. Not even the headlight. I would like to know if he ran it like that the whole trip.

  • They don't work that way. You flip the light settings then sound the horn.

  • not unless the ditch lights were set up for long hood. there is a switch on the control stand in those ge's for short hood and long hood.

  • they should have come on when he blew the horn

  • No headlight? No ditchlights? Engineer could get in trouble for that.
