Swatow Opera School 1 - 潮州大锣鼓

The Swatow Opera School 汕头戏剧学院 with an exuberant performance of this traditional genre "Teochew Big Drums" music 潮州大锣鼓 at the Kreta Ayer Peoples' Theatre, Singapore on 12th Oct 2009. And a touch of glamour too; young female percussionists rocking with bare mid-driffs - certainly very untraditional !!

What is this..sounds Indian (Tamil Nadu drums)..

Authentic Chaozhou drummings played by troupes in HK and S'pore are so nice...this one is just tasteless..hope they don't corrupt the authentic HK and SEA ones..

@bernardchannel Probably modern adaption influenced by northern Chinese. Nothing Teochew about it.

Costumes and dance does not suite this highly enegetic drum performance. Its tasteless!

A very energetic and passionate performance indeed. Very glad to know that young people in the Shantou are actively involved in propagating traditional cultural arts. However, I doubt if the bare midriff helps to make the performance any more alluring. Anyway, thanks for uploading this clip. Wish I were there to view it live.
