there are many ways to adjust valve lash. this is just one example and has worked well for me. you can do it any way you want just make sure the lifter is on the heel of the cam and between a half to one turn of preload

with solid lifters you would adjust the same way just put your feeler gauge between the valve and rocker. you want light drag on the gauge. or you can use go-no go gauges.

it's a good practice to cover your open carb mounting surface and water inlet hole to be sure not to drop anything in those holes. i once lost a valve cover bolt and guess where i later found it.... tucked neatly between a valve and its seat inside the cylinder.

@schrankm good tip, I just leave the engine lift plate on until I'm ready to install the carb. I also leave the oil pump primer in until I install the distributor

i had installed self locking nuts and some didn't feel very tight so i pulled them all off and installed the poly-locks. they are just better anyway.

X2N18 it dont mater wether its in or out with automatic transmission leave it in park manual transmission chock your wheels put in neutral

can i do a valve adjustment in the engine with the transmission mounted in my truck ? i want to ask to make sure i don't broke anything, far as i heard i can put some block in my tires an put the gear in Neutral should that work ? thanks

that chart you were using ought to be good for any motor with a firing order 18436572, right?
