Had a '67 Riv, same body style, 430 cube V8--similar block, slightly different bore & stroke, revised free breathing heads that got better low-end torque and gas mileage-though 11 mpg city and 15 highway was nothing great. I always thought the 360 gross hp rating was conservative. It'd haul that 4100 pound car up to 60 in under 8 seconds and as far as top speed? The speedo went to 145 mph, and on a flat stretch of I-81 south of Syracuse I pinned it. Probable top end? North of 150 mph....

@Vulcandays: The problem is, net HP only became standard in the early '70s and ratings were quite inaccurate at first..........i.e. a '72 SS402 Chevelle rated at 300 might've made as much as 360, etc.{'74-'76 Trans Ams are particularly notorious from what I've heard}

@KAdams1476: You can thank the idiots who run the bean counters.............if GM hadn't been so dependent on them, they'd be a lot better off nowadays.

if you need something like a crank case on a classic like this, does GM still make them to the old specifications ?

No, you would need to find a used one.

A different place for the rear number plate - but it suits it!

There are a couple of reasons for that. One is that our number plates are longer than US ones and also it has a tow bar on it with a number plate frame.
It's on restricted rego now with a smaller plate so I've removed the tow bar.
