CamTrak: NJ Hirailers Helix 09/28/08

Another trip around the NJ Hirailers' outer loop, this time through their famed aerial helix surrounding a city scene during their open house on 9/28. Also along the way, we learn of a few switch machines that are a little closer to the track than others, but that won't matter long--a newer version of CamTrak is in the works which should no longer be bothered by DZ-1000 switch motors.

Despite the relativley short length of this video, the amount of motion made for an extremely large upload. I'm talking 92 megabytes. It seems the DivX codec is even less efficient than the original MPEG-1 file (which was only 80MB) when there is continuous full-frame motion throughout the video.

Yep, they've had a few accidents here and there. I think a subway train got rear-ended in that area, somewhere near the helix.

At the time I got to run the camera, the show was over. You can hear a woman saying "It's after 4:00" (or something to that effect) at the beginning of the clip. I've built a new camera carrier and will carry it to future open houses. Eventually I'll have shots of it running amidst other trains.
