  • Why so fast? This isn't Zigeunerweisen... Where's the lament?

  • @Chriscuitz Hi! It is not primary a lamento-music. It is a Passacaglia subtitled by Biber "Der Schutzengel als Begleiter des Menschen", so it is not said that it has to be played slowly. In the middle of the piece, there are e few bars marked as "adagio" in the autograph score which implies, that before these bars it should be faster, like Allegro - and at the End of these Bars it is written Allegro again.

  • @Chriscuitz Biber himself was a real virtuoso and a lot of baroque solo music can be played either faster or slower without being wrong (as Glenn Gould showed). Listen to Reinhard Goebel, one of the great experts: he plays it even faster!

So I hope I could answer your questions.

  • Stunning. The restrained interpretation here actually heightens the piece's emotional impact - Hirschfeld has really discovered and brought out the essence of Biber's music. Thanks for uploading this.

  • @ miriamnz and SchallundHauch:

Thank you both for your friendly comment. I really appreciate it and I am glad you like my interpretation! Best regards - René alias Hermesnoeck
