I don't know where you are getting your information, but historians have not proved any of Suetonius's writings on Caligula to be false. With such little resources it would be impossible to do so.There is much to left to be suspect and there are inconsistencies such as how could Caligula have bankrupt Rome and yet Claudius enter his reign with a surplus of wealth. Still, there is hardly any scholarly debate on whether or not his actions are rumors but rather argue the reasons for his behavior.

the movie plays off alot of the writings of the Roman writer Suetonius. Even though there are scholars who have proved alot of these rumours to be false, this is still a very entertaining movie.
