We put the NAVIGON Mobile Navigator to the test and here's what we found. This review follows our first-look at the app a couple weeks ago.

Mobile Navigator is a competent turn-by-turn GPS solution that does some things very well, others not so well. Note that this review is of version 1.0, and late last night NAVIGON released version 1.1. I haven't evaluated this update yet, but from the description it doesn't seem to affect this review. Specifically version 1.1 does not add text to speech. I'll do a follow-up, when that feature is added.

  • Hi nice review I just bought this for my iPhone 3GS and do like it, but where on the screen does it show once it finds GPS access?

also my version is 1.5.1 is there a newer one out? thanks;)

  • @malonlave If NAVIGON doesn't have a GPS lock, it will go into simulation mode or just wait. Otherwise you'll get a red bar up top if it loses signal mid-trip. If you're not in simulation and you're running, then it has sufficient GPS signal.

  • Are the maps stored on the iphone?

  • @jamestapoz yes

  • Most GPS apps are designed to be used in a car mount, not in your lap!

  • Yeah, I ain't most people! ;)

  • Keep your hand out of camera view except when you actually need to touch the screen.

  • maybe a bit random but which car do you have? :D

  • Nice app but there's something about it that I don't like. It's kinda sluggish at times. I use it with a 3gs. I'm going to try TomTom.

  • Do you need internet for this to work? just because going abroad data charges will be an arm n leg...so if i have it in airplane mode or data turned off...will this work? thanks

  • Never set your home address! Just in case lose it with your keys etc

  • when i start my navigation it says GPS reception is currently not sufficient . Navigation starts automatically as soon as GPS reception is Ok again. So what do i need to do now please help me out!!

  • @yourpalcliffy Mapquest 4mobile is free. But it needs your cellphone signal to work and not the GPS signal.

  • I saw on TomTom you said that you can play music and it will mute it and tell you your turns. Does Navigon do the same? I'm sorry if you mention it in this video. Which is the preferred GPS?
