Produced by the U.S. Army Special Service Division, and directed by Frank Capra "Why We Fight" is a seven part propaganda/documentary series that traces the earliest beginnings of the second world war starting with Japan's invasion of China in 1931, to the Nazi's march across europe.
Battle of Britain is the name given to the strategic effort by the Luftwaffe during the Second World War to gain air superiority over Fighter Command. The name derives from an 18 June 1940 speech in the House of Commons by Prime Minister Winston Churchill, "The Battle of France is over. I expect the Battle of Britain is about to begin..."[7]
Had it been successful, the planned amphibious and airborne landings in Britain of Operation Sealion would have followed. The Battle of Britain was the first major campaign to be fought entirely by air forces. It was the largest and most sustained bombing campaign attempted up until that date. The failure of Nazi Germany to destroy Britain's air defence or to break British morale is considered the Third Reich's first major defeat.
Neither Hitler nor the Oberkommando der Wehrmacht (OKW) believed it possible to carry out a successful amphibious assault on the British Isles until the RAF had been neutralized. Secondary objectives were to destroy aircraft production and ground infrastructure, to attack areas of political significance, and to terrorize the British people into seeking an armistice or surrender. Some historians have argued no invasion could have succeeded, asserting the massive superiority of the Royal Navy over the Kriegsmarine would have made Sealion a disaster. They argue the Luftwaffe would have been unable to prevent decisive intervention by British cruisers and destroyers, even with air superiority.[8][9]
British historians date the battle from 10 July to 31 October 1940, which represented the most intense period of daylight bombing. German historians usually place the beginning of the battle in mid-August 1940 and end it in May 1941, on the withdrawal of the bomber units in preparation for the attack on the USSR.

  • Some of the comments you people post make me sick. If England hadn't held off the nazi's till Rosevelt grew a pair Hitler would have taken the WORLD! Churchhill was a great man and leader. Englands holding fast saved the world. I'm an American and I salute the British then and now for holding fast, and NEVER SAYING DIE!

  • It wasn't FDR it was the 1940's Republican party

  • @TheYaom Just the idiots who've never read a history book in their life, the war couldn't have been one without all of the big 3. The soviets sacrificed more lives then any other country an they have my respect for what it's worth.

  • @itzvincentx3 You have no idea what your talking about, for one the British held out agienst one of the feircest attacks of the war. And you relize the atom bomb was dropped years after pearl harbor. It wasn't developed for he sole means of bombing japan, hell if FDR had lived I doubt he'd have used it. The bomb was a dilemma to force japan to surrender and end the war. It had almost nothing to do with pearl harbor.

  • @FuzzAmatic5000 what about THE SOVIET UNION? lol at americans claiming they won WWII

  • What the- how could you even begin to claim that any innocent man in this world deserves this sort of punishment for something that another did hundreds of years ago!? Some of these people really do lack some respect, it's sickening. Even many German soldiers didn't deserve the fate that they met in WW2 - most of them were innocent. People just don't read the facts anymore, they just run blindly into conclusions.

  • @itzvincentx3 They do deserve it, so we did. Phucking japs

    No racial

  • @Megablaze9292 Yeah I totally agree with you, like if the Britain don't defend themselves and how will they going to help the others. For example, Japan first attacked U.S Pearl Harbor then US defend and drop a drop 2 atomic bombs right on their ass, the fucking Japanese deserved it. XD

  • Britain should have bombed the German forces before they send anymore attacks on their beautiful islands. Britain can defend then they can bomb them.

  • @baskovich didnt you see the results? UK raped and kicked the German ass, and you should check out the video clip when UK+US+USSR bombed all over Berlin and German cities. that revenge was harder, bigger and tougher than Hitler did. 95% of all german houses, churches, cathedrals bridges were completely crushed and bombed. France was a loser its embarrassing thats why most people call them coward surrender monkeys LOL
