  • No they are not cowards but although im one of them I find it almost sickening that the governments used and continue to use these tacticts to saturation---as far as I can see it is terrorising and they are terrorists

Also Why did hitler prohibit his fighters from attacking the the allied bobmer formations prior to the immenent attack on cologne

    Peace

  • Interesting to note how these American news releases always tape american engine sounds over British Merlins. They did it on Battle of Britain footage too, over a squadron of Spitfires taking off. I wonder if the sound of the more powerful Merlin engines upset their sensibilities somehow?

  • @Aco1890 - Coventry was indeed a beautiful medieval city (perhaps like Lubeck?) whose ancient crafts had evolved into light engineering etc thus making it a target.Unlike London or Cologne, her cathedral did not survive. We all lost much during those terrible times. My aunt had German POWs working on her farm. Two were "very nice young men", one remained a Nazi.My dad was RAF but after WW2 he was involved in Berlin Airlift & transporting German goods around Germany (just incase you are interested).

  • @jrwel14- I've only read this bombing of Freiburg was a navigational error (by about 30 miles as they were aiming for Mulhouse). If the highly experienced Luftwaffe could make such mistakes in daylight over a short distance what chance had the RAF in 1940 of greater accuracy?

  • Many thanks for the post.

Difficult times for everybody then,.. very brave and very young those crews.

Hard to put into words, but i don't even think i could imagine being around in those days.

I understand that a 1000 bomber raid was a new thing then & was quite a shock.

I heard the witness accounts on 'world at war', which are revealing to say the least.

    Good post though, thanks.

  • @blockthehood The German agenda: had Germany beaten England, the German plan was to use Englishmen as slaves in their factories and to use our women as whores. They tried to bomb us into submission with air raids - on undefended British cities early in the war (1940/41) - and they tried to starve us by torpedoing our supplies from the Americas. Hitler got fed up because my Grandparents' generation would not surrender so Hitler attacked Russia in June 1941 to carry out his 'masterplan' there.

  • The bombing of German city's was a justifiable act in the liberation of Europe. It played a great part in the unconditional surrender of Germany. Sir Arthur Harris and his brave Airmen saved many Allied lives, and broke German morale. Before the missions the unconditional surrender of Germany was unthinkable in the minds of ordinary Germans, including the ones who dumped there uniforms to become civilians Why is it that the Germans claim there was no Nazi's in Germany

  • About the so called cowards. On a nazi newsreel the spokesman said that it was a cowardly act for an allied destroyer to attack a german U-boat. So, Nazis call everyone cowards. In 1940, Hitler had his airforce attack the german city of Freiburg. So, he could have an excuse to attack allied cities. So, those on the German side. Blame Hitler for the bombings of your cities!

  • You do not call these men who have given lives cowards. Where were you when they were up there?
