That's assuming you have good, open-minded friends though. If your friends are actively stunting your growth as a person (I've had friends like that, too jealous to be happy for me) you're better off ignoring their opinion and cutting them out of your life if need be. Your direction in life shouldn't be decided by your peers. Not talking about women in this particular case, but I think the guy's point was relevant in more ways than the subject at hand.

@ChaosControl1997 I never said I gave up. It's just that many girls are not going to make the cut. Dating would just be a time-consuming and expensive process. Many guys recommend being a womanizer loving on the run, but I'm not like that. I believe women deserve better than that, even if that's just my opinion.
