Not even 2 years old and I'm already having to do repairs to my back deck!
FYI - It's a 15.8 x 15.8 deck and we used 16 foot treated 2x4's for the deck boards.
This was built by a sub contractor I hired when my addition was built back in April-May of 2009 and basically, half of the deck had pulled away from the center 4x4 block support and it had dropped about 3/4 of an inch because it was nailed in instead of screwed in, and there is no side supports in the middle spans of the outer deck edge.
So after pulling up about 5 center deck boards, my friend CJ and I jacked up the side that had pulled away from the center support and used a C-clamp to pull the 2x8 support beam back together with the 4x4 supporting block and used 3 1/2 inch screws to reattach it to the center support.
Then we had to jack up the side edges and put temporary footing blocks and 4x4 pieces to reinforce the length of the side spans till it can be properly fixed with holes dug for 4x4's and encased in concrete.
Also, the original 2 1/2 inch deck screws were stripping out of the wood and we used 3 1/2 in galvanized screws for the boards we pulled up. Eventually, all the 2 1/2 inch screws will be replaced with 3 1/2 inch galvanized screws.
