Jose Perez-Morales, Launch Pad 39B senior manager and Ed Mango, Space Transportation Planning Office director, talk about the demolition and refurbishment of NASA's space shuttle launch complex 39-B during a media event at the launch pad before the launch of shuttle Discovery on mission STS-133. LC-39B was used during the Apollo program to send astronauts to the Moon as well as supporting dozens of space shuttle launches. The pad was also host to the Ares I-X test flight in October 1, 2010 as part of the Constellation program. The launch rotating and fixed services towers at the launch pad will be torn down and the complex modified and upgraded to support a variety of heavy-lift launch vehicles in the future, including commercial launch systems.
