Watch SP battle it out in the Cascade Mountains of western Oregon on the Natron Cutoff. Also climb aboard Amtrak's eastbound Coast Starlight #14 just west of Crescent Lake for a winter cab ride down the hill from Cascade Summit to Oakridge during the last 15 minutes (for a fun audio effect go to about 55:00, pause the video, mute it, then open up this link:

Begin playing the music and then immediately click back to this video, hit play, and enjoy!).

Kevin P. Keefe narrates.

I apologize for the jerkiness but I had to make a lot of adjustments to the video file in order to get it to upload without error messages and stalls and somewhere in the process the video quality became less than perfect. Plus I think the size of the file alone was just a bit too much for my low-end Emachines PC to handle so needless to say I had quite a time just getting this video public on my account after the original uploader deleted it and closed. However I became just too fascinated with this program to let it die so I did just 'bout everything I could with it. Post a comment and let me know if it's too jerky.

  • anyone know the song at 58:20?

  • I've driven HWY58 numerous times between the valley and eastern Oregon, and I've always wondered what the right-of-way must look like way up on the mountainside—especially in the winter. Now I know.

Thanks for sharing such an amazing video.
