Atheist, journalist, and bestselling author Christopher Hitchens announced last week that he has been diagnosed with esophageal cancer. This video serves as a follow-up to last week's video on the same subject.
To the Christian viewers of this I ask a favor of you. Pray for Christopher Hitchens. Now. Specifically, pray that God will soften his heart to the Gospel. To face one's mortality is a fearful thing for anyone, but to do so without the authentic hope of Jesus Christ is too much to contemplate. God is real. And we all must face Him, whether it is in this life or the next.
I think if you genuinely pray for a non-believer in general, that's ok. There IS something creepy about praying for people facing death though- there's a kind of "now they're in trouble, we hope they give up on the opinions they held when they were well" feeling about it. There seems to be something twisted about that- something similar to the way children are indoctrinated by religions when they really aren't in any place to defend themselves.

I wish these Banner (wannabe) Christians would simple stop lying about their religion, stop calling it Christianity or followers of Jesus Christ. Non of your attitude is remotely resembling of the character portrayed by the scripture.
I come across this constantly, it is quite annoying. Scripture of Jesus disagrees directly with many facets of the Banner Christians, who want to do good with modern understanding of well-being, which most is contrary to what the holy text describes.

Whether or not Christians like Christopher Hitchens, we still need to pray for him. Prayer is the instrument God has given us when we communicate to Him through His Son Jesus Christ. Plus, you never know if your prayer may lead someone to Christ - prayers for me, which I didn't know at the time, led me to Christ. Let's all get behind Christopher Hitchens, pray for him, & show what Christianity is really all about.

Praying for Hitch may sound altruistic, but in the larger context it is clearly disingenuous.
Rather than praying (which is statistically no more effective than a placebo) you could mobilize to act in a way that has a very demonstrable benefit to the sick...

Prayers has never ever healed someone from cancer or any other disease (only way it has ever "healed" is due to placebo effects), so why pray for Hitchens? He would be insulted if he knew you did.

Hitchens may like this guy, but I would put money on him not respecting this guy's beliefs at all. I find christians praying for those of us who don't want them, self-serving, that is to say, they pray because it makes them feel like they are doing something special for us non-believers and probably gaining points from their sky-god. If they really did care about us, they would respect our views and not do any praying over/for us. Sickens me the way they act.
