Excellent 1969 flick based on actual events which happened WEST of Java. Great effects for it's time.

  • All this nonsense about EAST is given by people who never saw the movie and only reading some review or wikipedia. If you actually SEE the movie you would understand the title, though confusing, makes sense because its based on the plot, the boat travels away from Krakatoa easterly through the straight past Java (where Brian Keith gets left & is wiped out) into open waters. In the dialogue Krakatoa is spoken as the volcano's path and they give their ultimate destination as east of Java.

  • It should be : Krakatoa, West of Java!

  • Considering that the fourth and final cataclysmic blast vaporized the entire six cubic miles of Krakatoa and blew it eastward over Java, you could definitively say 'Krakatoa, East of Java'.

  • I saw this in a Cinerama theater when it first came out. I was only 6 years old at the time, so I remember almost nothing about it except that the guy from the TV show Family Affair (Brian Keith) was in it. Maybe I fell asleep. Even the Cinerama didn't make an impression on me because it was one of the first movies I ever went to and I had nothing to compare the big screen to.

Maybe they should make a film "Pelee East of Martinique", then nobody will be left at the end coz everyone was killed.

  • @Gnillob802 Very nice...

  • @Gnillob802 THANKYOU.

  • @SimSutcliff bad geography...

  • @Gnillob802 Similar complaints were made about 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea where you have some idiot who never read the story suggesting the sea isn't 20,000 Leagues deep. The story states the submarine travels a distance of 20,000 Leagues but completely underwater. The title is shortened and leads to confusion.

  • @Gnillob802 ....where are you? In the path of Krakatoa trying to evacuate, we've made it through the strait, past the islands, and currently east of Java. This gets shortened in the title to KRAKATOA, EAST OF JAVA. Confusing, but in reference to the film's plot and dialogue, accurate.

  • i like film this, this is a film good so my frien and me like film this
