It is not that much different. But you wont need to bother with local etc. The rest is similar

Generally it creates a folder that contains the files that makes a virtual disk. Unless you make another system already installed on another partition bootable through VMware.
There is also a similar free product Sun are doing called Virtual Box.
So does the VMWare create partitions on the hard drive or is it just a sofware program that holds an image?
