  • What a national shame!! An area covering circa one fifth of the capital in shambles!!!

  • That was in 1997, you should see it now, it's a lot worse. It was used the house asylum seekers a couple of years ago, probably still is!

  • why dont you fix everything back to the way it was its part of your ancestory you fucking maltese clowns,no respect for your culture

  • I'd like to see the part of the fort where they filmed "section 13" in Midnight Express.

  • I'm Maltese. One Thing To Blame, The Government :)

  • hey if u like books about malta / the great siege / knights era give ' The Religion' and 'The Sword and The Scimitar' a read .... they're well good and total pageturners

  • Years ago I read a book on the Seige of Malta and promised myself that one day I would visit the island and see the magnificent Fort St Elmo which played such a central role in the defence of Malta and ultimately of Europe itself. I was totally baffled last year when I finally made it to Malta and found a derelict ruin with no sign of its former glory. An untidy dump covered in dog shit. The Maltese are rightly proud of their history so why have they neglected this important historical site?

  • Incrível.. 30 anos depois.. a imagem é identica a do filme... parace que o tempo parou neste lugar...

  • Dear KevMull, may i point out the the Lower Fort Saint Elmo was NEVER used to home asylum seekers, we we hope it will NEVER be. It's a shame to home such people in a capital City. Mostly in a shaggy place like St Elmo, it's already a shame, being used as a home, will surely agravate the situation.

  • The Film "Midnight Express" was filmed here.

  • Why is it such a mess? It's a historic site. Is it because The Religion Which Must Not Be Named got held off here for a bit?
