Leg exercises can be daunting when you are a beginner starting out with bodybuilding and fitness: squats and deadlifts can be hazardous for your back when done wrong and with lunges you may lose your balance. This also goes for step-ups, but to make matters worse, you'd be falling from a chair.

In come get-ups. All you need is two chairs and your body, one of the chairs being there for safety, and you have a beginner's exercise for your workout plan.

They may look easy, but can be a surprisingly challenging exercise.

  • What if we don't have enough leg muscle developed to do a get-up. What alternatives would you offer?

  • @360waveprodigy Do them with both legs at the same time.

  • OMG, thats hysterical. Klaus my personal garden gnome made it safely back to his homeland after living in the USA for nearly a decade! I am so happy for him!

  • @scooby1961 And he says hi to Günther! We might call it a student exchange! ;)

  • Wow Evil good thinking man...nice....

  • Do get ups exercise all legs muscles or only some of them? I am a beginner so are get ups enough or are there a few more simple exercises I can do? Thanks!

  • Huh, I can't do a single push-up or pull-up, but I can do these all day long. I thought my legs were much stronger than my upper body.....

  • For those with a weight bench, you could also do this by resting one hand on the barbell (which should be weighted for stability) while lifting up with your leg. Since weight benches are typically a little higher than most chairs, it will put less stress on your knees.

  • Simple and effective- I like it. Also your German Accent saying ahead like Ahat makes it better :)

  • Hey Cyber, great exercise, though would it be feasible to add resistance say by wearing a weighted vest, weight backpack, or even hold to dumbbells and balance solely on one foot?

  • @dannymc20 It's his distant cousin Klaus! ;)
