After 31 years playing electric bass , and now making the transition, this is clearly a great way to begin facilitating the change in left hand consciousness need to play the upright. And very in tune. Thank you!

Alright, so I've been trying that exercise for beginners on the last few minutes, where you slide up and do the transition to thumb position, and for whatever reason, it's not happening for me. I've been playing (electric) bass for 7 years now, so you'd think I'd be able to get the hang of it! But what I'm hypothesizing is that maybe my action is too high. Could that be the problem? It's hard to get a slide to sustain all the way through without it bottoming out at the transition point....

that could be it. what is your action height in mm at the end of the finger board on the G string and the E string? mine is 6mm-G and 10mm-E

Cool, Thanks. I am very careful when i teach these techniques to my students. Their health is of prime concern. With younger students i teach 1,2,4 first; before employing the use of the 3rd finger. Extensive strength training for the 3rd finger is utilized before i introduce 1,2,3,4 fingerings. If they develop any soreness i have them stop immediately. thanks for watching!
