midi controllers don't have to be expensive, check out the korg nano series ;)

can you assign two ableton tracks to the external mixer? how can you use it as a effect box? thx

Yes, you can. I have 4 tracks directly to a mixer. Ableton as an effects box?
You need:
Audio interface with analog ins and outs
Mixer that has the ability to "send".
Mixer send out to Ableton track input then Ableton track output to mixer send in.

iv just started using live 7....
thinkin of downloadin 8...
but i dont hav any midi controllers or that...
i really want 1....
i use Ableton for recordin my band coz its easy.

Just keep using 7. I don't think switching to 8 will make a difference to what you use it for. Buy an Akai APC40.

Ableton has built in PFL. My setup uses the mixer's PFL. Thanks!
