Ten months after being paddock mates, play has become frequent, the paint is freer in action as his muscle and feet problems improve.

  • You have an interesting subject of study. The previous owner thought the paint horse was always subservient in the paddock, but I think he was mainly more sore with laminitic episodes and unable to enter in to the spirit of the game. Since this video he has become more assertive and enjoys prolonged sparring games with feigned biting.

The barefoot trims have helped a great deal.

  • Thanks for commenting. You are right, the paint horse with the rug is not so enthusiastic. The palouse pony has been separated from a pony friend who liked to play hard as much as he did. The paint is 20 years old and is recovering from problems which mean he is not so agile, but it has helped to keep him moving like this, and he gets pretty emphatic if he has really had enough.

  • Thank you for posting: I am studying horse behavior and this was a great vid for me to watch. What were the paint's feet problems, if I may ask?

  • They're cool, the one without a rug is a little more dominant in these shots.
