why is it that elizabeth has two boys, both of whom were accidents, and yet she spends most of her time working or clinging to someone but Sam, who desperately wanted kids has none?

Is it just me or did it seem like Sonny was upset that Jason found Jake? Did Sonny want Jason to fail so he could sweep in and save the day thus making Jason owe him?
