As fabulous as this performance is, Richter's is still the best. Somehow, with this complicated a score, Richter still manages to make it sound like bare-bones simplicity itself. Contrast these two wonderful performances!

Her fast playing doesn't keep her from giving a haunting interpretation. Quite to the contrary... the furious hammering of the keyboard gives the piece an almost ecstatic feel
