I've always wanted to do a zebra as I find the contrasts technically and visually fun... However, technically it was very difficult. Following the hair patterns, I learned that the hairs entering the black stripe are white and the hairs exiting the stripe are black... That kept me on my toes!!

  • Your work is awesome! I'm learning so much! By the way, a zebra is a black horse with white stripes :) Ironic really.

  • @MadRazzex Hello! Thanks for the great comment!! :)) Roby

  • @pandakyi Hello! Thanks so much! Zebras are so cool...:) Roby

  • Hello beautiful works. I wanted to ask where to find the Carbothello Stabilo Pastel Pencils, here in Italy have gone for years. Hello good luck.

  • @Devoto2 Hello! Thanks for the nice comment. I get my CarbOthello pastell pencils at Dick Blick here on-line. You can buy them by the set, box of each color or one at at time. I purchased the largest set then buy them as I need them. If you do purchase the set you may as well get extra black and white as you will use those the most. Good luck! :)) Roby

  • @Stryder1100 Hello! Thank you very much for the great comment! I don't know about the patience thing, it's just who I am. I want to make it look as real as possible so I do what it takes to make that happen. It really is a personal thing and there is nothing wrong with doing hyper-realism or loose, it's just what I love. Thanks again for the great comment. :)) Roby

  • Once again, a wonderful rendering..I suppose the question the begs to be asked.... where do you get the patience? I imagine its a skill that has been built up by years of work. I find myself getting too tense with very detailed work.... wanting to fight between extreme detail, and a looser form...but again, you have done an outstanding piece...thankyou for sharing!!

  • @customanimalart Hello~ The reference photo for my zebra painting I took myself. I try to take my own reference shots but when I can't I get permission from the photographer. I contact them and usually they will have a larger file that they will send to you. Sometimes you have to pay a fee and sometime not but ALWAYS get permission. If you have a zoo in your area or fairly close to where you live you can get good reference shots that way. Good luck!! :) Roby
