They isolate their followers emotionally and geographically. They brainwash impressionable adults and innocent children. They use and abuse trust for personal gain. They are cult leaders, and those who've escaped their grasp have compelling and often horrifying stories to tell.

  • Big fan, huge fan actually...but sirius is NOT a "planet in another universe". Look it up. :(

  • @yesimsandw1ch Yah yah. I blew it. I was reading my prep material and got it wrong. I submit myself to the hive mother for re-education.

  • I came out of a fundamentalist church, my mother is a minister, and taught to believe the bible and evolution was wrong and definitively are anti gay. Then I got into science and my faith was doomed the second I opened my mind to science. Now I am a PhD candidate in cell biology and of course accept evolution and am atheist. My little sister is also bi-sexual, and I have seen how my mother's religion, without even knowing she's bi, hurts her and is the main reason I ambit anti-theist.

  • You can't "become ignorant". That's a stupid proposition. If someone ever accuses another of "becoming ignorant" then they obviously have no idea what ignorance means.

  • @vnorthru But there is evidence for the existence of God.

  • @TheAwesomeMaths Science and some forms of faith may not be in conflict, but the fundamentalist upbringing I had and science are in conflict. I was speaking about the church I was raised in and what I was taught to believe which was fundamentalist. I do realize not all christians are like that but I still don't believe any of it since there is no evidence. I don't really have a problem with more open minded theist but really have an issue with fundamentalist.

  • I must be John Frum! I was born on February 15th. Well I'm probably not him but I was startled to hear my birthday. XD

  • @vnorthru Science and faith are not in conflict. Please do not judge Christianity by the fundamentalists.

  • Omg, I would not have put in that bit from Jim Jones. You can hear people dying in the background. It's horrific. The pain...

  • Tracy, your strength inspires me too!!! <3

  • @shabido1 blasphemer!!! We will find you and spill your tomatoey goodness. There is no way out except death in the boiling baptismal pasta pot!!!
