"One Boyfriend Too Many" originally aired on December 13, 1975.
Michael Tolan makes a return appearance as Dan Whitfield, former suitor of Mary Richards (Mary Tyler Moore). Having never quite gotten over Mary, Dan insists that she choose between him and her current steady beau Joe Warner (Ted Bessell). For a gal like Mary, to whom "not enough romance" has been a near-permanent state, this embarrassment of riches is a bit too much.

For some reason watching this made me feel uncomfortable. The Mary Richards i knew and loved five years {at the time of this episode} would never have done anything like this. Were the writers trying to make her more hip or cool by mid 70's standards? One of the reasons we loved Mary was because she had a strong moral attitude. You knew were you stood with her. What's next, is Mary going to have a three-way with those two guys? I can see now why MTM was slipping in the ratings by this time.

Probably the funniest scene in all the mtm shows baxter is top notch in the beginning of this scene just hilarious.
